trip launch logistics

Check-in and trip launch will take place on at 11:30 AM on Friday, June 12th at Lone Jack Baptist Church.

Please ensure you have brought all items on the trip packing list (below) with you!

 

first SPLAT trip? no worries! we’ve got you covered with some launch day tips:

  1. Be sure that your consent forms and payment are completed by June 5 to “lock in” your adventurer’s spot on the team and limit day-of chaos.

  2. Students under the age of 18 should be accompanied to trip launch by a parent or guardian who is authorized to complete day-of paperwork. If this isn’t possible for your family, please let us know so that we can get everything necessary to you in advance!

  3. On launch day, we ask parents who are able to stick around for approximately 1 hour. During this time, we announce our trip theme, complete in-person staff introductions, and hold a group time of prayer over our students. This is also a great time to connect with other parents of awesome students!

    Bringing a combined 27 years of SPLAT experience, Justin and Kristen form a ministry powerhouse pair that expertly shepherds our team. These two share passions for practicing gospel hospitality, encouraging youth, discipling their two young boys, disrupting human trafficking, and practicing slow cabin life on their lakeside homestead. On a SPLAT trip, you can usually find Kristen on a long walk with a new student - Justin will be cracking a dad joke while brewing his famous coffee and baking a treat to share with another.

    Michael Mayor

    Michael is our resident people person - whether he’s making space for a hurting student or training an emerging leader to build relationships with the global church, he’s all about forging deep connections between people and Jesus. When he’s not driving culture on SPLAT, Michael is supporting local pastors, learning new languages to use on his world travels, or tackling a home remodeling project. On a trip, Michael’s easy to find - just listen for someone asking, “Why?”… possibly in Chinese :)

    Carolyn Herrera

    As a proud SPLAT alumna, Carolyn is a big believer in the power of authentic relationships and adventurous faith to shape a life. She loves mentoring students on and off trips, supporting global humanitarian efforts, and spending weekends in the Rocky Mountains with her church. If you’re looking for Carolyn on SPLAT, check the nearest body of water - she’s probably leading a group game to get the whole crew wet and laughing.

    Elijah Burns

    Eli is the undercover hero of our team - he takes Jesus’ command to serve without being seen very seriously. In his daily life, Eli loves mentoring young leaders, leading worship, drawing communities together around shared joy, and planning new tattoos. On SPLAT, you can usually find Eli stealthily taking care of his team (how do our water bottles never go empty??) or coaching a student into their own “secret hero” identity.

    Josie Gamber | SPLintern

    If you ask a student to describe Josie, the word you’ll hear every time is “wise” - her quiet discernment points them consistently to Jesus. Josie spends her days studying hard at UMKC, spoiling her nephews, connecting with students over coffee, and convincing her friends to go to barre classes with her. On SPLAT, Josie’s a pro at finding moments of stillness to pray with students.

    Elissa packs enough joyful determination to sustain our entire team through 18-hour ministry days. A student at Grand Canyon University, Elissa loves connecting people with deep community, challenging young people to lead, and exploring the deserts of Arizona. On trips, Elissa can always be found encouraging and motivating students to run hard on their toughest days.
